What inspired us to create Before My Visit?
Our mission is simple but powerful: to put safe, trustworthy AI directly into the hands of patients, so they feel more confident, more prepared, and more in control of their healthcare. What began with paper templates has evolved into innovative AI-powered solutions like Derek, our appointment preparation chatbot, and new tools we are now building to help track symptoms, organise health information, and get the most out of every medical visit.

We believe healthcare technology should be human-first; empathetic, practical, and shaped by the people who use it. That’s the journey Before My Visit is on, and we’re excited to share it with you.
The Patient Advocate

I came up with the idea for Before My Visit after spending eight years living with unexplained symptoms, before finally being diagnosed with Vasculitis in 2021. Along the way, I started creating templates to help prepare for my own appointments and years later, those same templates have supported thousands of patients, which I’m so proud of.

I’m a passionate patient advocate and a graduate of the IPPOSI Patient Education Programme. I’ve had the privilege of speaking at several conferences about the safe use of AI in healthcare from the patient’s perspective; an area I care deeply about.

Watching my wife Ciara go through years of medical appointments before finally being diagnosed with Vasculitis gave me a front-row seat to the challenges patients face every day. As an AI Consultant, I knew there had to be better, more supportive solutions for patients and those who care for them. That belief is what drives me now building AI tools that make healthcare preparation simpler, kinder, and more empowering.

Together, we created Dwayne for Vasculitis Ireland Awareness, the first AI chatbot for Vasculitis, which has already benefited hundreds of rare disease patients.

AI in healthcare is evolving rapidly, with huge strides in clinical, diagnostic, and predictive medicine. My focus, however, is on creating everyday AI solutions that give patients and families practical support and that's what I'm here to do at Before My Visit.
